Job Description

We are looking to recruit a Specifications Technologist within the Technical Compliance team, reporting into the Senior Specifications Technologist. The key focus of the role is to approve and risk assess raw materials and suppliers for the business against the company’s comprehensive approval procedures, and complete customer retailer specifications on the web portal systems.

The role is fixed term, 10 months - Maternity Leave cover. 

Main purpose of the role:

  • To validate raw material data received from suppliers to enable retailer specifications to be produced in a timely manner and to deadline. 
  • To work as part of the specifications team ensuring the Company’s specification systems are continually updated and maintained to meet the requirements of both the British Retail Consortium certification and our customers

Key responsabilities 

  • To ensure that all Company quality parameters and procedures are complied with and that all products manufactured meet the required standards and specifications.
  • To assess raw material specification data against Company and retailer requirements, requesting further detail and clarification from suppliers where necessary before risk assessing approving it for use to produce finished product specifications.
  • To work closely with a range of internal departments and suppliers to gather information, and to interpret this data to complete specifications in compliance with Company standards.
  • To update the Company’s approved ingredient list.
  • To keep updated with current and forthcoming legislation to ensure that the Company’s products conform to relevant legal requirements.
  • To work with the Senior technical team in relation to supplier audits and associated documentation and systems.
  • To take part in the supplier approval process, assessing approval documentation and providing reasoned judgement to colleagues when necessary.
  • To ensure that the Company is professionally represented at all times, both inside and outside the business.    
  • To protect the health, safety and welfare of the job-holder and others at all times.
  • To take an active role in continuously developing the job-holder’s skills and knowledge through self-development activities and/or through attending Company organised training and development opportunities.
  • To respond to ad hoc requests and/or take an active role in specific projects as directed by the job-holder’s line manager.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as may from time to time be required by the Company.

 KPI's 

  • Accurate assessment of supplier data resulting in appropriate action i.e.. approval for use or return to supplier for further detail or clarification.
  • Accurate provision of technical and product information to customers ensuring specification and artwork detail is legal, whilst meeting customer and launch deadline timelines.

Person Specification:

  • Computer literate is essential (word / excel / office 365 ) Microsoft teams experience preferred
  • Fully trained and experience in either RM or FG specs preferred
  • Raw material safety approval and risk assessment experience preferred
  • Retailer portal experience preferred
  • Legal labelling training preferred
  • Export legislative requirements preferred (USA / Canada / EU / ANZ)
  • Be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Flexibility to work at home or at site (typically 50/50)
  • Maths literacy essential
  • Very good attention to detail essential
  • Team player approach essential
