Key responsibilities
- To manage & develop a robust Food Safety & Quality System across all site functions ensuring ‘BRC Grade A*’ certification is maintained through providing advice and support to site management.
- Identify site & system improvements to ensure the Food Safety, Quality & Legal Compliance of all site products & processes.
- To support the elimination of root causes of production related non-conformances.
- To support customer and third party audits.
- To ensure the compliance of site housekeeping, personal hygiene standards as well as allergen and pest control systems to certification and customer required standards through providing advice and support to site management.
- To provide technical support to site project teams responsible for New Product Developments, Continuous Improvement projects as well as the installation and commissioning of new products and equipment.
- To ensure internal specifications are completed accurately and to agreed customer deadlines and to support any non-routine customer and supplier issues to a satisfactory conclusion.
- Support the business launch process to ensure launches are right first time
- To support the HACCP system for all existing and new processing lines and products. To ensure all site developments are successfully incorporated into the factory Food Safety & Quality Systems
- Ensure that the site pest control system is kept up to date and support the business in ensuring actions are effectively closed out
- To facilitate and/or provide appropriate Food Safety, Quality System & Legal Compliance training for the technical team
- To review and develop the technical personnel’s objectives and agree priorities with the QA Manager.
- Conduct formal 1-2-1s & review staff performance a minimum every 2 months.
- Hold regular team meetings & facilitate monthly technical management review meetings.
- Continually improve product quality & consistency through review of quality assessment data.
- To support the Crisis Management Team and advise best practice with regard to Product Recall ensuring an accurate, efficient and timely information retrieval system.
- Represent technical in site meetings and advise on continual improvement and address root cause of site issues.
- Manage output from site reports and ensure appropriate action taken with support provided where required.
- Manage the site’s customer complaint system, providing senior technical sign off where appropriate.
- Maintain and support customer code of practise review and provide technical support for action implementation
- Facilitate and support food safety and legal systems & training for production personnel.
- Support business initiatives and projects for efficiency and continual improvements
The Person:
Candidates will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience within the food industry in a quality/technical role in a business supplying the UK retailers. With an ability to make decisions, the successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and have some experience of managing/supervising and training a team. Previous experience of the BRC standard and HACCP is essential . Ideally you will have HACCP & FS to level 4, formal allergen training and must have prior experience of allergen risk assessment and validation, internal auditing, pest control and root cause analysis.
