Symington’s to build extension to Cross Green warehouse
Symingtons Ltd, the branded convenience food manufacturer, has started work extending its main warehouse and distribution site at Cross Green, Leeds.
Symingtons has grown strongly in recent years and this performance has been accelerated by the opening of our new noodle manufacturing facility in Leeds together with last year’s acquisition of the Consett based Tanfield Foods business. As a result of this continued growth, and to cope with our future planned requirements, this extension is being added to the existing warehouse site and will increase storage capacity by 25% as well as providing expanded marshalling and loading capability. This will increase our operational efficiency, reduce external storage costs and improve the service we provide to our customers.
The work is well underway, adding 29,000 sq ft to the existing site and providing 6,500 additional pallet spaces giving a total capacity of 27,000 pallet spaces, and we are on schedule to move into the extension in June 2015.
The main contractor on the build project is Stainforth Construction. A significant number of Yorkshire businesses have been involved in making this project happen, with property support from Fox, Lloyd Jones, Legal support from Walker Morris and Project management from Richard Boothroyd & Associates.
Commenting on the project, David Salkeld, CEO at Symington’s said:
“Symingtons have seen several years of strong growth, where we have extended into new product areas and new geographies. This has exhausted our current warehouse capacity. This extension will give us much needed warehouse capacity and support future growth. I’m grateful for the support Leeds City Council has given us in this project as well as the support our partners have given us.”Tweet
