Symington’s partnership with Ruth Gorse Academy
Symington’s partnered with The Ruth Gorse Academy in Morley to give 15 year 8 students an insight into the world of manufacturing.
The students, who worked on a ‘Success starts with breakfast’ project over the past academic year, had the opportunity to develop an “on the go” healthy breakfast product from concept to launch, together with a marketing plan to demonstrate how they would support their product. Working with managers from each key part of the business, the students developed skills and experience that they would not have access to as part of the general curriculum.
The project was headed up by Rebecca Eastwood, along with Symington’s CEO David Salkeld and HR Director, Michelle Williams. Rebecca has led the project throughout her university gap year and has made an enormous impression with both the children of Ruth Gorse and her colleagues in the Symington’s Product Development team.
As the project drew to an end in June 2016, the year 8 students bravely took to the stage and presented to a host of teachers and their peer group in a 45 minute presentation where they shared what their project had involved.
What can only be described as a very proud moment for the Symington’s project team, it was delightful to see just how far the group had come on their journey.Tweet
