Sales Director - Northern Region

Neil joined Symington’s in March 2016 as the Northern Business Unit Director. In May 2016, Neil was then appointed to the Executive Board, becoming the Sales Director of the Northern Customer base.


Following John’s appointment as CEO in October 2016, Neil’s remit increased to incorporate Demand Planning, Customer Services, International Export (including the Australian business) & Millerdale.


Prior to joining Symington’s, Neil has had a very focussed career within the food industry. Starting from the Fruit & Veg department at Safeway in 2002, he then went on to work for Morrisons & Waitrose. As an university student, Neil completed Undergraduate Placement Schemes with both Waitrose and Cadbury Trebor Bassett over a 2 year period. Once graduated from Bradford Management School in 2008, Neil joined PepsiCo on their Graduate Scheme. After 2 years with PepsiCo, he accepted a role at Northern Foods, working within Fox’s Biscuits, finishing his tenure as National Account Manager with their largest customer.


Neil then went onto to join Mars Chocolate as the Grocery Controller of the Ice Cream business & lastly before joining Symington’s was the Business Unit Controller at Greencore’s Cakes and Dessert site in Hull, managing their biggest portfolio, covering Chilled, Bakery, Ambient & Seasonal. His best achievement was winning Bakery Supplier of the Year & Product of the Year for the Piñata cake. Neil prides himself on understanding the full product lifecycle, from category concept to launch, starting from the supply base & executed in the retail stores. Neil is adamant that the shopper is put at the centre of all decisions and his team are laser-focussed on making trading easy and simple with all of our customers.


Neil loves working at Symington’s. He is surrounded by a great team, great brands, great quality and great customers. The brands and categories in which we operate are perfect for the UK consumer’s, they are on trend, high quality, tasty and convenient. Symington’s have a clear strategy, ‘making great food simple’ and strong leadership, meaning we are making sustainable, long term decisions. Neil’s team will continue with the same focus to ensure our customers get the same great service everyday as they should expect whilst building their categories ensuring their customers have the best range of products available. More recently, Neil has been involved heavily in driving the Export agenda, ensuring Symington’s products can be enjoyed globally. This means countries such as America, China and India are being targeted as suitable destinations. Following recent visits to these countries, we are very confident this vision will shortly be achieved.


Although a local Leeds lad, Neil relocated to East Yorkshire where he has lived for the past 10 years with his wife Jules, his children; Ava & Louis & his French Bulldog, Freddie. Outside of work Neil is a keen sportsman, traveller, foodie and DIY’er…
